Genius Hour 1.8
This week I made a bigger meal with sloppy joes, cornflake potatoes, and strawberry pretzel pie. I had to prepare some stuff in the morning, and then finish it that night. I started with the sloppy joes, which my mom helped me with this week, since I was busy. We got some ground beef out and put it in a crock pot to cook and heat up, then we put some packets of sloppy joe mix and some tomato paste. My family likes to serve them on toasted hamburger buns, so I buttered some and then broiled them for a couple of minutes. Broilers can be difficult sometimes, I was little bit late getting them out, so some of them burnt, but there were enough good ones where I didn't have to do it again.
The dessert I made this week, my family calls strawberry pretzel pie. You take crushed up pretzels, melted butter and some sugar to make the crust, bake that foe about 10 minutes. Then take cream cheese and whipped cream mixed together for the second layer, make sure that it is covering the pretzels completely. Lastly make sure the second layer is pretty solid and poor strawberry jello and put strawberries on top.
I had some troubles this week with the buns and also the strawberry pretzel pie gave me some issues. We used too many pretzels on the bottom layer, so the cream cheese layer did not cover the pretzels completely. When I poured the jello on, it leaked into the bottom and made the pretzels soggy. Also the jello did not set completely, but all the food tasted good, even with a couple of issues.
The next thing I made was cornflake potatoes, which I have already made in a previous blog. My sister was home and I had to make them again just for her, because they are her favorite. This time when I made them they turned out better, I cooked them a little longer so the cornflakes were crispier.
I also remembered to get a picture of them this time.
