Genius Hour 1.1

For my Genius Hour this semester, I decided that I would like to learn a little more about different cooking styles and techniques. I am going to try and make a different thing each week. First, I had to do research and figure out what I wanted to make and try for my Genius Hour, so that is what I did this first week.

Here are some of the techniques I found when I did my research, poach, simmer, roasting, blanch, grill, braise, caramelize, saute, sear, and emulsify.

In my next Genius Hour I plan on learning the different ways to cook eggs, such as poaching, boiling, and scrambling. Then, I am going to learn cutting techniques and make a roast. The other things that I will make and try are going to be, cooking potatoes, sauteing things, making fondue, cooking chicken, steak, and I might even try a couple of desserts.

So when planning this out, I had to look up recipes and techniques. Next Genius Hour I will begin my cooking and learning. I am really looking forward to making these different types of foods.

  1. Your blog made me hungry so I think that was a success on your part. I think that knowing all of these techniques will be so important as we leave high school and actually have to feed ourselves.

How time consuming do you think these meals are going to be? Are they going to be larger family sized dinners or quicker/healthier options?

  2. Cooking is a very good skill to have, it saves money and is a healthier than eating out everyday. I'm excited to see what new skills and techniques you will develop as you try new things.

Do you have someone giving you tips and lessons as you try new techniques, or are you going to be just looking up ideas and videos?

  3. All of this sounds soooo good! I love your creativity with the many different techniques that you are doing. Cooking is a very good life skill to have and you will always be able to use it. I know that there are many great resources to help you out, and judging by your mom's amazing cheesy potatoes and your dad's bomb prime rib, I am guessing you have many of them. I hop you the best of luck in making your food and look forward to trying some of your creations!
