Genius Hour 2.6
This week I am going to give you guys instructions on how to make the blanket I have started on, and walk you guys through my process. I have already knit two balls of yarn and have started on a third. There are two ways that you can knit the rows together. Both ways you you start off by knitting your first stripe. Then when you move onto the second stripe, you can either knit it into the first or knit it separately then sew them together later. I decided that I would just knit them separately, because knitting the second stripe into the first was a bit complicating. Also now I can wait until the end to decide what order to put them into.
So now how to knit the stripes, first you have to cast on 13 stitches onto your needle. To cast on you start with a loop on your needle, slide the needle in your right hand through the the bottom of the loop on the other needle, so your right needle should be behind the left one. Now take your yarn and wrap it around your right needle, switch the right needle to the front, and pull it down through the loop. Then, take your right needle and take the stitch on that needle and slide it onto the left needle. That is how you cast on stitches and do that until you have 13 stitches on your needle.
Next you will knit the first stitch front to back, which means that you will do the same thing as you do when you cast on but do not slide the yarn off the needle. Instead you will take your right needle back through the top of the stitch and hook it on the back yarn, then back through the top again so there should be two stitches on your right needle and slide the stitch off of your left needle. Next, you will knit four normal stitches which is the same as what you do to cast on, but instead of putting the stitch back on the left needle, you will keep it on the right then slide it off of your left needle. Then you slip two stitches off, so you slide your right needle through the bottom of the stitch, and move it onto the right needle. Now knit another stitch and you will pass the two slip stitches over the knit stitch, so they are off the needle, and it will decrease your stitches by two. Knit another four stitches, then do the front to back stitch one more time. That is you first row of stitches. Now move the needle with the yarn on it to your left hand, and you will knit the next row like normal. You will repeat these two rows until your stripe is at the length you want, I just knit my stripes until I was out of yarn.

This is how my stripes are looking so far, I have not sewed them together yet, I am waiting until I have the all knit to sew them. I am pretty happy with the way they are turning out so far. I am hoping to get quite a bit more done before my next blog, and hopefully I can almost get it fully done by the end of this Genius Hour. For this week's blog I decided to use the How-To format.
This seems to be a good hobby for you. It is awesome that you enjoy it and keep improving your skills. I hope the rest of the blanket comes turns out how you hope, and I can't wait to see the finished product!
